A registered community-based organisation in Isingiro, operating since 2016. Health, land, livelihoods, and a safe space in Nakivale. This is not the Hope Foundation School — that is the sister station on the same Uganda campus.

CITRAL works in community health, environmental restoration, skills development, economic strengthening, child protection and improved agricultural practices. On the MAUNi rails it is the Uganda community station: human-led practice meeting a working programme in Isingiro Town Council and Nakivale settlement.
Overall goal: a healthy population with functional skills, improved household income, and sustainable development, enabled by 2030.

Over 200,000 seedlings raised. SPGS-certified nursery. Eucalyptus, grevillea, bamboo, fruit trees — restoration that also feeds household income.

Programme areas
Four areas of work, one community-led approach.
Health & rights
Maternal health, HIV/TB/malaria, mental health and SRHR, especially for adolescent girls and young women.
- Raise awareness on antenatal care, HIV prevention and reproductive rights
- Community dialogues on TB, malaria and HIV, with access to testing and treatment
- Support and multi-sectoral services for SGBV survivors, including mental health
Environment & energy
Waste management, habitat restoration, and modern household energy solutions.

2016
Assessment & mobilisation
A baseline assessment informed CITRAL's strategic plan; 324 community members were mobilised across awareness sessions.
2017–18
Land, climate-smart farming & training
12 acres hired for crop production; an irrigation system installed; 18 staff trained in basic project management.
2019–20
Waste management & tree nursery
Waste segregation and a management committee established in Isingiro Town Council; over 200,000 seedlings raised.
2021
Nursery certification
A saw log production grant scheme (SPGS) assessment certified the nursery for mass production and supply.
2021–22
Health screening & partnerships
HIV, TB, hepatitis B and cancer screening delivered; organisational capacity assessments with ICWEA, TASO, PTY, RHU, EASSI and UYAHF.
2023
School re-entry & bamboo training
Over 100 teenage mothers linked to skills development; district school regulations adjusted; a 14-day bamboo technology course completed in China.
2024
Consortium formation
CITRAL formed a five-CBO consortium for SGBV and SRHR work in Nakivale settlement, and launched a wetland restoration campaign.

2024 · CITRAL consortium
Five community-based organisations signed MOUs: CITRAL, Women of Focus, Youth for Development Africa, Tucheke Movie Production, and Real Agency for Community Development — three from the host community and two from the refugee settlements. The consortium runs SGBV and SRHR campaigns in Nakivale settlement and organised “Run for Green: Bamboo for Wetlands”, aiming to restore 65 hectares of wetlands around Lake Nakivale.
